I have the following string inside a cell in my grid
<a onclick="alert("srini@us.ibm.com");">srini@us.ibm.com</a>
This shows up correctly in firefox and when I click on the link , it shows the alert message. When I display the page in IE (7 and also in 6), I see a blank entry inside the cell anad I dod not see the link at all.
Not sure that jqGrid can not be used in IE with anchors inside cell?

I did not realize that I did nioy have sorttype for the field where I have anchor.
I updated the colModel for that field as
{name:'userid',index:'userid', width:155,sorttype:'text'},
Now it works fine in Firefox, IE6 and IE 7
