URL vs SQL String for data access

Sorry - this post was moved to "Help" - it did not belong here - I don't see a mechanism to delete it - sorry

I am not seeing a way to specify a URL (such as getData.php) as the mechanism to retrieve the data. It seems that we are limited to using direct sql statements. Is this correct or am I missing something?

If I am correct, then what is the reason for this limitation (just curious – not complaining!)
