jQuery Grid Plugin - jqGrid

What I want to do is set focus and select the contents of a specific cell when editing a row or set focus to the first editable cell in the row.  FYI, I am using inline editing.  I thought I could accomplish this within the edit row function:

var item = $("#" + rowid + "_Value", "#grd");

item.focus();

item.select();

Unfortunately, this doesn't set focus to the cell and to get focus of the "Value" cell I need to click in the textbox for "Value".

{ name: 'Description', index: 'Description asc', width: 270, editable: false },

{ name: 'Value', index: 'Value', width: 240, editable: true },

FYI, I am using IE 8 and jqGrid 3.8.1.
