How does one post process data that been retrieved?

Hi,

I'm looking at the beforeProcessing event and it seems very deceiving. I see that the parameter data is the data pulled back from the server however I can't make any changes to it so that it is reflected in the grid. The problem is that the data pulled back from the server is not in the exact format that jqgrid wants. For example, I get a webresponse object, where a property called Tag is a string of the JSON object. I have to do a $.parseJSON(webResponse.Tag) and have that be the data the grid should use. What is the best way to approach this? I thought I could do something like:

function beforeProcessing(data){var newData = $.parseJSON(data.Tag); return newData;}

But looking at the source, that won't help... so I'm assuming I'm approaching this incorrectly. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You can change properties of the object data which is parameter of beforeProcessing. For example you can use the code like

beforeProcessing: function (data) {
...
data.rows = ...;
data.page = ...;
}

Ah strange. When I attempted to just set data to {}, to see what would happen, it didn't appear to do anything. However setting properties did. Thanks Oleg.
