Hi Oleg,
Currently each cell in a jqGrid displays the cell value as the tooltip, when you hover over a cell. Is there any way of defining a custom tooltip value in the colmodel? Or, perhaps any other way of achieving this?

it would be nice if in the next vesrion of jqGrid custom tooltips could be defined as a function in the colModel. If I'll find time I will post the corresponding suggestion to the grid.base.js code, or you can do this youself. Currently it is not possible. So you have to either define a simple custom formatter or reset the title inside of loadComplete or gridComplete function (you can combine the last way with the title:false colModel setting) with respect of setCell method (see this old answer) or use jQuery.attr (see also this answer as an example which place tooltips for rows and not for cells).
