I would like to use a fixed width table for the grid and then have td and th set to "width:auto" in the css.  Is this possible?

I have a large database containing text strings of varying lenghts so the proportional columns offered by shrinkToFit don't work so well.

Thanks, but the link seems to answer a different question.

I now understand that the fixed or proportional column widths are necessary in order to have resizeable columns.  In other words, it was a stupied question.
