Adding row to jqgrid using popup

I have a grid with the add function on the navigation bar working. I want a popup to appear with fields when a user clicks on the add button, then have the data be saved into the grid.
I found something called addFunc that takes a function to add, but I couldn't find any goodexamples.
I need something that works in Javascript only.
