Grid controls are incredibly difficult to make and get things right. Finally found jqGrid, which does 99% of basic things right. However, there is one critical and very basic flaw.
There needs to be a mode which basically says never re-calculate column widths from what they are initially specified in the colModel under any circumstance.
This is very basic and there are all sorts of obvious reasons for this need. I can give a half dozen off the top of my head, but won't enumerate here.
Right now shrinkToFit and forceFit are confusing, as their behavior depends on the width of the table in relation to the sum of the widths of the columns. I suppose that is fine as long as a mode is added that just says leave my column widths alone.
Perhaps this could just be implemented with the 'resizable' colModel property. Currently this property only keeps the user from resizing columns, but they are still resized when the grid width is changed. Maybe if a col is not resizable, its width is never recalculated.

Hello,
Try the new 3.5 version and set shrinkToFit : false.
