jqGrid is really a lot of help, and nice to use with all those features like resizing and reordering/-sizing colums. However as soon as you offer such features, users expect those changes to be saved. But unfortunately they are compltely forgotten after a reload.
I propose two buttons: "save state" and "reset state"
- "save state" sends all data, neccessary to restore the layout to the server, where it can be stored in a cookie or database for that user, preferrable as one encoded string.
On initialization that string can be set as a parameter and the grid gets restored each time - "reset state" resets the grid to the default settings
