Oleg showed me a workaround to get this to work but it would be nice if this workaround code was built into the core API.

hoverrows is the option, but this option can not be changed dynamically.

Thanks Tony. Yes the ability to do this dynamically was what I was after. There is a workaround in the stackoverflow link.
