I'm trying to spec out a new project and before I commit to a solution I need to make sure jqgrid and do what I need. I have used this in the past for my previous projects but this next one could be a bit tricky....
Here is what I'm looking to accomplish...
Fixed header that scrolls horizontally.
Fixed footer that scrolls horizontally.
Multiple fixed columns that only scroll vertically. All the fixed columns would be next to each other at the left of the grid.
Is this possible with JQGrid?

Hey Tony,
I've been looking around at all kinds of places to try and find a grid that will do everything that I need. So far I have not found anything. But, I'd be willing to take a look at the column freezing feature if you'd like to share where I should start looking. I haven't been into the JQGrid code since right before the 1.3 jquery upgrade version.
I think this is the only feature that I need that your grid does not support, so if I could help at all then maybe I could take a look.
Thanks
Bryce

Hi to all.
+1 to brycekmartin.
Best grid of all which I tried, very fast and full of features, except for fix/freeze/lock columns.
If you wiil be defined with terms of releasing this feature, during half a year, I use it in the new project.
If no, I will be compelled to search for another grid.
P.S. Export to excel can wait, it can be implemented with external things 🙂
Best regards,
Gariq

Yes, this is an important feature.
In many cases, we have a BIG jqgrid, including a lot of columns. The typical case is the compensation table of employees. In excel, we can deal with this by fix column and header simply. But in jqgrid, it's very hard to use, even much worse, the jqgrid will JUMP to show the head line and first column when we after edit a cell in celledit mode.
you take a look at this situation:
You have a big table with many columns and many rows, and need to edit a cell in the last row. Notice the row count in a page is about 35, so it beyonds the height of a normal screen of a DELL notebook, that means when you see the last row, you can't see the table head, so you don't remember what's the cell means.... I know we could set a fix height of the jqgrid to use a vertical scroll bar to always keep the head row, but that's not good, because at many times, we need to set jqgird height as 'auto', and at this siduation, you will meet what I said problem.
So I thinks the fix column and head feature is indeed needed, and please don't JUMP to the head line after cell edit.
yours,
Ivan

I had to get the fixed header and footer done which worked with the windows scroll bar and not the jqgrid scroll bar. I was able to manage with JQuery eventually. Does anyone know of better solution...
Here is the code sample
