Table width shrinks when hiding/showing columns

I'm seeing a strange bug (?) with jqGrid. If I have a checkbox to show/hide a column, the grid table will shink a little each time the column is hidden or shown. I have created a small test page to demonstrate the problem. This happens in IE, FF, Chrome, and Safari.

I have tried this with different version of jQuery, different version of jQuery-UI, and version 3.8 and 3.8.1 of jqGrid. I have tried to force the width of the grid, the columns and both at the same time. I'm stumped.

Am I doing something blatantly wrong? Or is this a bug?
