There appears to be a bug with jqGrid beta when viewed in IE8. After loading the grid, IE8 displays "Downloading picture <URL>" where URL is an image from jQuery UI. The behaviour is exhibited on the jqGrid 3.5 demo page:
http://www.trirand.com/jqgrid3.....qgrid.html
You can interact with all elements on the page, including the grids, but page load progress never completes. The problem happens every time, though the exact image changes. On the demo page, refreshing via F5 causes the page to load successfully. Clicking on the address bar and pressing <ENTER> to reload the page causes the page load problem again. On my own app with a more complex grid, it happens every time whether you refresh via the address bar or F5.
Chrome 1.0/2.0 and Firefox 3.5 do not exhibit this behaviour. They all load the page and all images successfully. The browsers are running on Vista x64 SP1.
The page load not completing is cause a WatiN test to fail as it is waiting for page load to complete before examining the results of the request. I have worked around the issue by not waiting for the page load to complete. Note that this behaviour does not occur with jqGrid 3.4.4.

Thanks in advance for looking into the problem. jqGrid 3.5 is looking awesome. The jQuery UI integration is especially welcome.

Hello,
This is not a bug in jqGrid, but in jQuery UI Theme roller application. If you remove this application or set to load the themes locally all wil be ok.

Thanks for the reply, Tony. I am familiar with ThemeRoller, but I'm not using it in my application. I'm using a single local jQuery UI Theme located in /Content/redmond. jQuery, jQuery UI, and jqgrid are all located in /Scripts. I have tried jqGrid with both the loose files and minified. Everything works as expected in Firefox and Chrome, but IE8 spins with:
Downloading picture http://localhost:9999/Content/....._1x400.png
The exact image changes, but it always spins/waits forever in IE. This happens both locally and on the QA server.
Any other thoughts on what could be causing this behaviour?
Thanks, James

Hello,
Not sure if this is the solution, but maybe this will help.

I checked the list of issues in the linked TechNet forums and none of them solved the problem unfortunately. As I mentioned, the demo site exhibits this behaviour for a variety of computers around the office:
http://www.trirand.com/jqgrid3.....qgrid.html
- Vista x64 (multiple computers)
- IE8 (both x86 & x64) - spins endlessly
- FF3.5 and Chrome 3 - works properly
- Windows Server 2003 x86
- IE7 - works properly
- Server 2008 x86
- IE7 - spins endlessly
- XP x86
- IE6 - spins endlessly
I'm at a loss as to why it works under IE7 on some machines and not on others or why it is specifically IE and not FF or Chrome. If you have any additional ideas or if anyone else has experienced this problem, I would love to hear your thoughts. I'm going to try debugging the issue using the latest dev bits from GitHub and will report back any interesting findings...

James,
Thank you very much for this report.
To be a honest, I have no idea from where to start investigating this problem in IE browsers. The bad news (as from your report) is that on some installations it work while on other this does not.
My thoughts was that this is connected with the rendering of PNG files in IE, but...
I have partial success when I load all the javascript files and code at end of the html, but the result is unexpected - one time this work one time does not on the same browser.
Instead I will make all possible to correct this bug in IE.
Thank you very much.
Best Regards
Tony

I noticed that you committed a fix last week to hopefully fix the forever loading problem in IE. I grabbed latest from GitHub (f69079a7e3f72ec0170e85eff7a4db19b7bfc47d), which included the "loading" fix along with a few others, and tried it out in the application. I am happy to say that IE no longer spins forever with loading jQuery UI images. Thank you very much!
