Not sure whether it's by design but the header bar isn't rendering correctly when closed. div.ui-jqgrid-titlebar has square edges which is overlaying div.ui-grid which has round bottom edges causing a mixup.
Easily to code around i.e. in the onHeaderClick event when visible remove the class ui-corner-bottom and when not adding class ui-corner-bottom to div.ui-jqgrid-titlebar
